Agreeing a Start Date

When making your award, be clear about the extent of flexibility available regarding the start date. Although you may prefer to have the new candidate in their role as soon as possible (and they may prefer this, too!), they may not be available immediately if:

  • They are leaving a role to begin the new one,
  • They need to relocate,
  • They are currently taking a career break for any reason

Of course, it is unlikely that you will be able to hold the role for them indefinitely, so clear communication right from the start is the most inclusive, equitable way to approach agreeing the start date.
