Interviews

4 – The Review Process:

Interviews

If you choose to use interviews as part of the review process, there are several steps you can take to improve their EDI.

To start with, you can:

If you are unable to share precise interview questions, sharing a timeline of the interview and what will be expected of candidates during it can go some way to achieving the same goals.

  • For example, are there questions based on the content of their application documents, followed by more general questions about why they applied to, and consider themselves a good fit for, the role?

At the end of the interview, you should communicate both when and how your applicants can expect to realistically hear a decision, and whether you will provide feedback (which is good EDI practice, if possible). Communicating this in advance is inclusive to people with various mental health issues or who are neurodiverse, and more broadly is a considerate measure for all applicants.
