Advert or Listing – Placement and Awareness

Alongside your usual listing locations (e.g., internal vacancies webpage at your institution), you should consider the placement of your advert. If possible, try to raise awareness of it in underrepresented or marginalised groups you would like to apply.

You can reach out to existing staff networks for advice, for example, Women’s networks, Carers Support Network, Disability Network, Race Equality Network etc.

A simple internet search can also yield results. For instance, if you are keen to attract applicants that are early career researchers, or women in STEM, you can search for online groups using those key terms. Then, you can contact relevant groups which appear, asking them to share your advert in their networks.

Advertising directly through boards which aim to promote marginalised groups will:

  • Increase the likelihood they will see your advert
  • Boost their confidence that the application process is equitable and inclusive to them

You can check out your institution’sCommunities of Practice (CoP) for targeted adverts, or reach out to staff networks for advice (these can often be found on your institution’s intranet site).
