Pre-application workshops may be best suited for funding competitions but may also be relevant for larger recruitment drives.
Holding pre-application workshops can both raise awareness about your opportunity – bringing you a wider pool of applicants – and provide potential applicants with opportunities early on to have their questions answered and to receive advice regarding their application. This levels the playing field as much regarding your application process may be tacit to ‘those in the know’. Accordingly, pre-application workshops promote the EDI of your entire application process.
Ensure that the format you hold the pre-application workshops in is inclusive. For example, think about having multiple sessions so people from different time zones can join, and invite registrants to inform you of accessibility adjustments so the burden is not on them to reach out and ask.
